Comments at Trump rally lead to anger and indignation in one of the most crucial battleground states in the election
…
As the Harris campaign was announcing her policy proposals for Puerto Rico, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe was opening for a Trump campaign rally in New York. Hinchcliffe, during his introduction, made racist and disparaging remarks about Puerto Ricans.
“There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” said Hinchcliffe, a comedian and host of the popular podcast and stand up comedy show Kill Tony.
The racist comments spread like wildfire, leading to anger and indignation in Pennsylvania, one of the most important battleground states in the US election which many experts think is crucial to any attempt to win the White House. There are over 472,000 Puerto Ricans in the state of Pennsylvania, according to the US census bureau.
Trump’s rally might cause Puerto Ricans to flip the race
so… attacking illegals wasn’t working so they had to add another 100% legal group of people to their enemies list?
gj morons
They had to add a group of American citizens to their enemies list.
The enemies list is MOSTLY American citizens.
this was my point-- LGBTQ+, women, non-whites, non-christians-- hey, why not go ahead and throw boricuas on there for some reason!!
Haitian migrants were legal btw.
Puerto Ricans likely remember the more racist times decades ago. And secondly, they are a much larger group than Haitians. So this is a much bigger mistake than the Haitian thing a few weeks ago…
No offense to any Haitians around here. Just talking about sizes and demographics. It’s awful that we have a candidate who is so openly racist. But I’m happy that they’re showing their colors while we can still defeat them at the ballot box.
This time he passed off citizens. Now these are citizens that his base do not want to think of as citizens, or even as legal immigrants(a group that they don’t want to acknowledge either), but they don’t want to believe in reality.
“Thank you for describing the legal process.”
This is what does it Puerto Ricans? Not the vile racism against Blacks, Muslims, Haitians, and Venezuelans? They came for fucking everyone and I did not speak out…
Every Latino who is a Trump voter thinks that they aren’t the problem. It’s those other races that are the problem.
GOP Puerto Ricans just realized that he means them, too.
But GOP Guatemalans still think they are safe.
It’s racism all the way down.
I thought it was pretty clear that Trump didn’t give a fuck about Puerto Ricans after Hurricane Maria.
DW has a documentary where an naturalized citizen working as an immigration lawyer says that her clients would prefer her be a Trump fan, because if she’s cool with Trump, then he wouldn’t target them.
Illegal Immigrant: It’s okay, Trump isn’t talking about me he’s talking about foreign people not in the US. Make Mexico pay for the wall!
Temporary immigrant: It’s okay, Trump isn’t talking about me he’s talking about visa-less illegal immigrants. Those are the dangerous hombres, not me.
Legal immigrant/Permanent Residents: it’s okay, Trump’s team is only going to revoke temporary migrant visas. Those people need to go through the proper channels and suffering like I did, shortcuts are unfair!
Puerto Ricans who are literally Americans born and raised: It’s okay, I’m an actual American, Trump’s not talking about me! They’re letting too many immigrants from other countries!!
Puerto Ricans after they realize Trump thinks they are immigrants from another country: 😳
When the Nazis came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist. When they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat. When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I remained silent; I wasn’t a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

I’m over it, at least it will help turnout
We have to remember that most people just don’t care or pay attention at all. People here are 10000x more informed than the average American let alone the bottom of the bell curve.
You’re working under the assumption that Puerto Ricans saw Trump either favorably or neutrally before this incident.
The US generates almost stadium-full amounts of trash every day.
They’re called Trump rallies.
I think you’re overestimating the size of his crowds.
Zing and ZING!
If this election is won on the margins, could this also turn Florida blue? I think it would be funny as hell.
Florida also has the Abortion ban on its ballots, so Women are likely going to vote in huge numbers.
Kinda sad that the Presidential election is riding on the coattails of other issues, but that’s the nature of today’s politics.
Florida is considered solidly red though. But all elections in the USA are a turnout issue.
The way Florida works is Miami/Dade is usually mixed dem/rep, the northern panhandle is solid Republican, leaving the I4 corridor, where most Puerto Ricans live the determining area.
Kinda sad that the Presidential election is riding on the coattails of other issues, but that’s the nature of today’s politics.
I’d actually argue the opposite: the nature of today’s politics has far too much focus on the horse race popularity aspect and election strategy of candidates and not anywhere near enough on the actual issues that can shape or even end the lives of the people.
I for one would much rather have someone with the absolutely zero charisma who won’t sell people’s lives for support from special interest groups than the most charming motherfucker ever promising the moon and barely giving the Fresh Kills Landfill.
Granted, neither of those combinations are on the presidential ballot, so I’m just gonna cross everything except the streams hoping that the establishment candidate not likely to significantly improve much beats the fascist guaranteed to make everything much worse if given the chance.
It turns out the October surprise was Trump‘s big fat mouth all along.
The October Predictable
Not a single Trump voter changed their minds. The Trump Puerto Ricans agree with this. They just think it’s the ‘others’ fault.
This may even get them TO vote since someone sees the ‘problems’ they live with. This is how EVERY group that votes Trump against their own interest feel.
spoiler
They 100% don’t know they are included with the ‘problem’
VOTE
I know lots of Puerto Ricans and Dominicans in Allentown. Hopefully they’re pissed.
This is why Trump keeps cancelling things. He’s not convincing anyone new to vote for him, it just presents more opportunity to show who he really is and push more people to vote against him.
I’m about to look into the guy myself, and I guess opening for a Trump rally tells me what I need to know, but is that comedian known for being cool with fascists, or is he an edgy comedian who says shit just to get people riled up and doesn’t really care about politics?
I’ve heard of the Kill Tony show, but I’ve just never watched it or looked into it or anything.

If Puerto Ricans liked their island so much, why are they living in Pennsylvania?
