More has come to light about WWE’s decision to bring back the Winged Eagle Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
At the event, Cody Rhodes wore the title for his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match that saw him retain against Kevin Owens.
Andrew Zarian is reporting that potential merchandise sales of replica titles have played a big part in WWE bringing back the title.
Zarian adds that bringing back classic titles will be a “regular thing.” WWE will host four Saturday Night’s Main Event shows every year.
After the show, Kevin Owens attacked Rhodes and walked off with the Winged Eagle title before having a confrontation with Triple H.
WWE has given a storyline update on Rhodes, who is said to be suffering from an axial compression of the cervical spine following the attack.

Explains why they used a merchandise replica.
They were selling Rhodes signed Winged Eagles shortly after the show ended. I wonder if each SNME (or whatever they call the other specials) will have a different theme. This one 80s to early 90s, the next one could be Big Eagle, then Undisputed, then Cena/RA era covering the 4 eras and 4 classic titles they may want to sell.
Wouldn’t be a bad idea.
