0 A.D. just released a new version today with some interesting changes.
The features they mention on the news page:
- Vulkan Renderer
- Multiplayer Savegames
- Tips & Tricks Page
- Naval Overhaul
- Observer Flares
- New random maps: Foothills, Migration, Coast Range; New skirmish map: Isthmus of Corinth; and updated skirmish maps: Watering Holes, Sporades Islands
- New and updated art
It’s not mentioned in the features list, but I’m interested in the changes they’ve made to some of the civilizations. The Spartans, Romans, Athenians, and Macedonians all have had changes to make them more unique, which should make the gameplay a little more interesting. The new maps will be nice to try as well to give a bit more variety.
If you enjoy RTS games like Age of Empires and similar, it might be worth a try!
we would like to officially announce that this will be the [last] version labeled Alpha. We have already updated the versioning scheme (this version being 0.27.0) and we will progressively stop using the Alpha label altogether up to the next release, which will be Release 28.
Excellent. Whenever I told people about 0 A.D., I felt like I should add that it’s not actually an Alpha, especially with their webpage saying in various places basically “no, don’t look at us yet, we’re not ready yet”.
If they continue adding content, I do think that’s awesome, but what’s there is already plenty solid.
I think it’s a good decision too. I understand why they were still using it, but I’m sure it would turn some people away.
Was wondering earlier this week when their next release would be!
It’s been a while! I was curious and just checked, September 2022 was the update 26 news post!
