I understand it from a “if every single level was the optional level, this what the best possible run would be.” Tool assisted speed running before that was a thing.

The fact that levels in that spliced game were faked makes it all pointless through.

Segmented runs make sense in some games, but probably not something like Diablo.

Super Metroid, for example, has a lot of segmented runs between save stations. It’s a lot harder to put together a record-setting non-segmented run than it is to perfect all the segments individually. You lose precious seconds going to save stations, but you save some RNG and mistakes don’t spoil an entire run.

Wow, unreal to think a 20 year old cheater ruined a whole category of runs! I feel like if the community can’t come close to replicating a run, they should just automatically be removed as sus. Imagine screaming about how obviously fake this run is for 20 years until someone finally proves it?

Also, tangent, I read the linked Diablo 4 review and i don’t think a review has ever so tightly captured my sentiments towards AAA games and movies. The idea that a thing can be polished, well made, basically without flaw, but still be deeply uninspiring. These media projects are spectacle and addiction but where’s the fun, the challenge, and the spark?

they began to search “impossible seeds” - “which could only be created by using save modification tools to force a creation date after the year 2038”. They eventually found dungeons with the drop in the right place, using seeds for the years 2056 and 2074.

    For more:

I assume the game didn’t allow for save files to have negative epoch time.

Why go to all this trouble for a 27 year old speedrun?

Uh, is 2009 that long ago?
