Hello all, we’re trialling out a new front end for Lemmy.zip, which promises to give a cleaner mobile experience than voyager. The software is quite new, and so for now we’ll be trialling this at:
beta.lemmy.zip
The site will work on both mobile and PC, but be warned it is in beta and lacks lots of features, so is for testing at the moment.
Please let me know how you get on if you do decide to test it!
Any errors you can put in the comments below or feel free to log on the github page
Beware the jank :)
I like it! It has Reddit sync vibes, which I’m a fan of.
Only criticisms I have from using it for a few minutes on mobile are:
Clicking in a post to view comments then backing out to the news feed put me in some random spot in the feed. Previously “seen” posts were all gone. I have hide read posts on, but my expected behavior would be for the news feed not to refresh till I manually refresh.
Would be cool if the cards were full screen width instead of having whitespace around the edges of the screen.
Thanks godrick!
I’m going to send this thread to the dev for them to have a look at, so feedback like this is incredibly helpful, thank you!
I have seen a comment they made about the current setup not knowing where it is when it backs onto the main feed, hence why there isn’t infinite scroll, so I assume it could be related to that.

Pssst… [email protected]
It’s not out yet though
Not 100%, but there’s already a semi-public limited alpha release (already full) and I believe the only thing standing in the way of a full publicly available download is just Google’s approval. Hopefully, we should have it within a few days
sending from an alt since my home instance hasn’t federated this yet
This is an issue with Sveltekit 's client router. When you press back, instead of having the browser handle it (which will likely use back cache to instantly return), it loads the post feed again, which means the posts in there might have changed since. Especially if you’re browsing New.
This is realy nice I’m not a big fan of the old one but this one is an other story I’m realy love it
Yeah it looks great, few issues on desktop still but mobile seems a great experience!
Actually looks pretty snappy and snazzy. Like it!

This looks really good to me on Android.
It looks great actually!
Commenting via Photon:
It think this one is the best yet. Very clear design. Still missing some features like comment formatting bar and I’d prefer to have the vote buttons on the right side, preferably separate but overall really nice.
My oh my! It’s beautiful
Wow nice, love it
I like it a lot
I like the style and i like it more than posts are openened (images and so on), but i could be better scale on notebook monitors, because it’s just black right and left.
We are able to play link from site like imgur in this version or see the images without following the link. In the beta that’s not yet possible
sending from an alt since my home instance hasn’t federated this yet
I was concerned about user privacy when I made this decision, as it would automatically fetch from imgur whether you wanted to watch the video or not.
Then again, I do fetch images from every other instance…
Is it possible to have it as a toggle in settings?
True. I’ll have it on by default in maybe v0.4.0 and have it as an option for the privacy minded people.
FYI: beta.lemmy.zip is running Photon v0.4.0, while the current release is v0.4.8.
Also, I never promised a good mobile experience or it being better than voyager lol, it’s actually meant for desktop first.
I think its the cleanest mobile app going :)
We’re having massive postgres issues at the moment so i’m not applying updates to this server until we can fix them and upgrade to the next lemmy version.
No problem! Was just a reminder.
Thanks, please keep checking in, i’ve had so much positive feedback about photon. will upgrade asap. Looking forward to admin tools too!

I personally don’t like it. All the buttons are two big to be useful
What platform are you on? PC or Mobile?
Mobile
