Just to be clear though, I’m not playing with other players (so no PvP for example), just by myself.

I tried to play this game legit, and got a fair distance into the game (beat three lords of cinder, and then had to beat the dancer boss to continue to the next portion). I’d already started thinking about cheating when defeating Aldrich just felt so tedious, and I began to realize that the novelty of beating everything with ‘le skillz’ was no longer doing anything for me.

It’s not fun having to repeat a boss fight over and over and over again; also I got sick and tired of my character looking exactly the same the entire way because it’s the best armor I have, and what’s the point of collecting all these armors and weapons if I can have just one build and have to choose my armor and weapon accordingly? I’ve now given myself a gigantic boost in each of my stats and infinite health; I can wear whatever armor I want and experiment with every weapon to see which one is fun; also now I can use sorceries/pyromancy/miracles any time I want and just enjoy the game.

The novelty of beating bosses fair and square wore off several bosses ago, and I got bored of cycling through the same 2 weapons over and over again (both strength based, one fast and one powerful). I just want to enjoy myself for God’s sake.

I can’t believe I’ve spent hours and hours just repeatedly trying to beat the same bosses over and over again, or dying to some really annoying mobs like the Pontiff knights.

I just tested out some pyromancies this late into the game and you know what? They look cool; I withheld this from myself because my character was built for strength and pyromancies weren’t part of the build.

This ‘difficult for the sake of difficulty’ thing really doesn’t do anything for me. The very first boss I fought I actually enjoyed that I beat him fair and square, but then with every boss fight after the fun got less and less and the tedium set in. I play games for fun, not to be annoyed.

Totally fair if that’s more fun for you. But for me, cheating in souls games is like being given the answer in a puzzle game. Totally skips the fun part of the game, which is figuring it out yourself. Although, some puzzles are for real bullshit.

    Nice!

Full support, crack these games wide open. I maintain that their strength is atmosphere, art style, music, etc and that the gameplay is just a barrier to experiencing that. More-so if that’s not your ideal gameplay type

Honestly I do enjoy the gameplay but I just get frustrated when the gameplay itself becomes an obstacle; and you’re right about the atmosphere and art style; I adore the way the world and the enemies look, and even the interesting NPCs and such. The game has so many strengths but the gameplay inevitably holds it back.

But if you cheat then ur cheating urshelf /s

I have cheated in more singleplayer games than not because sometimes its the best method for learning a game that doesn’t involve staring at a wiki or watching video tutorials. Every souls game the first run i use cheese and cheats to first learn the game and experiment with mechanics then rerun without cheats and every single time the rerun is much easier and significantly more enjoyable. The alternative is bash my head against a wall until i complete it correctly which doesn’t sound fun to me. I know some people enjoy playing this way but I don’t its like the idea of “getting lost” in hollow knight is appealing to some but is just frustrating to me.

The goal of games is to have fun and if you’re having fun that isn’t at the expense of others that’s a win

I love Hollow Knight but goddamn, give me a linear game with a good story and I’m good too.

I do still have a cheese build saved for the second Hornet fight because it works hilariously well.

Oh God so much this; I played hollow knight but then I stopped because either I didn’t know where to go or I forgot the specially locked area that I just unlocked the ability to traverse it with, etc.

I like the sense of exploration but hollow knight wasn’t fun for me from an exploration standpoint.

  • I really should try this with the Soulsborne games. I really enjoy their atmosphere and settings but I’ve got slow reaction times thanks to disabilities, and the newer games get to absolutely manic levels of hyperaggressive speed

Elden Ring’s lategame bosses (with some notable exceptions like Radagon) are just straight up unfairly difficult; unless you use summons which also just make the fights unfun imo. And don’t even get me started on the hot pile of garbage that is Promised Consort Radahn…

Maybe they should just step away from Soulslikes and focus on stuff like Sekiro and AC6. Those were fantastic.

There’s already a method of cheating built in, it’s called coop. I’ve beaten every single one of these games without being good at any of them because I just summon whenever I can’t progress or just play with friends from the beginning. It’s the best way to play these games.

I’ve played this game coop with my brother but unfortunately we also used to get invaded every five minutes by people so skilled they have end game gear at the very start of the game at low soul levels until we decided we’d rather play literally anything else than this.

Good post! Maybe I’ll actually get back into Armored Core 6 again with a bit of extra assistance. I was enjoying it quite a bit until I hit a difficulty wall and just stopped after bashing into it for a while.

I haven’t played AC6 yet but dear God I remember AC4A where one map had you fighting about 3-4 ACs, at least two of whom were melee combatants. Ranged builds were useless because you ran out of ammo, and melee build meant you needed to be skilled enough. It was genuinely frustrating (though I do want to eventually get AC6, but I’m hoping I don’t encounter another mission like that).

Cheating in video games is based as hell! If the choice is between playing in a way that makes the game fun and not playing, choose the fun thing and see what the game is made of.

If I had been able to cheat on DS3 I would have, because multiple times I got stuck for months on one boss. DS3 is way too obscure mechanically and requires trawling through wikis to play optimally, which is straight up bad game design, I don’t care if you disagree about this. I shouldn’t have to look up what to do every 30 minutes to know if I’m even playing correctly.

That said, when I beat the second last boss in DS3, I realized I had finally got gud and that broke my brain, and now I enjoy being stabbed in the face by Fromsoft games

Honestly sometimes beating a boss legit CAN be fun, but yeah, not when it’s like your fiftieth time and you really want to see the rest of the game rather than be stuck on this one annoying boss forever. The first boss was literally this; if you weren’t at all skilled enough to get past the first boss, then you were guaranteed to never see the rest of the game because you can’t even level up before fighting the first boss to give yourself a chance. Besides which, even if I beat every boss legit eventually, it won’t mean anything because it’s not like I’m in that small pool of super skilled played who can beat the game one-handed, blindfolded, using a wii remote, with the screen upside down. I’ll just be one in a gigantic number of players who beat the game but not someone who’s competing for a world record or something, so I may as well just enjoy myself.

i’ve tried to play that game probably a half dozen times and the furthest I ever made it was beating the first boss guy then i died like immediately afterward

i usually give it a good couple hours and then uninstall

i want to like it but i hate it

Usually I fight a boss a few times and if I’m nowhere close to winning I’ll look up strategies for beating them. Because yeah slowly fighting a boss to learn all their various tells can be time consuming, especially if you need to walk back each time to challenge them. The most time I spent on bosses was probably sekiro though, with lady butterfly and owl’s hard fight, taking the longest. (Both in the same arena, maybe I just suck fighting in a weird dungeon with pillars?)

Whatever works to get you enjoying the game. I love summoning and getting NPCs to help me too. I love finding ranged weapon or magic cheese as well. I’ve heard of Elden rings’ sleep and stealth exploits that make bosses not even fight back which seems super hilarious.

I did this in Sekiro after I got frustrated with the Owl guy. Got a mod to make it easier, and happily enjoyed the rest of the game. I don’t feel bad. I know it’s not the recommended experience, but I wouldn’t have finished it otherwise.

Frankly the only downside to modding/cheating to make the game more manageable is upsetting the weird internet people; I’ve seen some of the most ridiculous and stupid complaints from them every time someone mentions a game needing easy mode or such, for example telling people to just watch it on youtube. These are deeply unserious people.

I’m on an FPS/boomer shooter kick right now even though I’m not the greatest at them. I suck ass at any online pvp shooter(Apex can eat my entire ass) but I still like running around and shooting things.

I found that I gravitate towards shooters that allow me to adjust difficulty on the fly and has a very easy mode or even accessibility options. Prodeus’ easiest setting is a cakewalk and you get to just turn your brain off and shoot stuff and make a mess.

I also just finished Sprawl which is a retro style movement shooter with the Titanfall wall run parkour mechanic. But the game is actually kind of challenging and the endgame gets very tedius. What kept me going was that instead of a set of difficulty options, you get 3 sliders. One is how much damage you do, one is how much damage you take, and the last is bullet time timer length. What this gives you is essentially the ability to go god mode and be super powerful out the gate. The game’s story and set pieces weren’t great but it also didn’t overstay it’s welcome and I had fun just mowing down enemies and jumping all over popping off headshots.

I’m currently doing post-game cleanup in Echo Point Nova and on the easiest setting, the game is actually still kind of hard because of it’s unique movement shooter approach. But it has accessibility options baked in which ends up making the game really fun. You get auto-melee, infinite bullet time, auto-aim, and even an auto-aim modifier that makes it so your character does leading shots(shoot where they are gonna be since the game is based on projectile damage and not hitscan damage). This last one, I’ve never seen in a game but the result is that you end up looking and feeling like a badass. A lot of the accessibility settings allow you to focus more on moving around and doing backflips while shooting mofos. I haven’t had this much fun in a game in a while honestly. Also today I learned you can grapple your own rockets from your RPG. No, seriously. I don’t think I’d like the game nearly as much if it wasn’t for the accessibility settings.

Sorry for the ramble but like others said, cheating is perfectly fine. Play the game however you want. I ain’t gonna judge.
